Salmond in ‘sleaze’ row over calls and Trump meetings

Alex Salmond has been accused of sleaze over the Scottish Government's handling of the planning application for a £1bn golf resort in Aberdeenshire by the Trump organisation.

Liberal Democrat leader Nicol Stephen said: "Every step of the way there is contradiction, concealment and cleverness from his government on this issue. It smells of sleaze."

But a furious Mr Salmond yesterday called on Mr Stephen to apologise and withdraw criticisms of the government's chief planning officer Jim McKinnon who, as a civil servant, was not in a position to defend himself.

The LibDems focused on the fact that on the day the application was called in by ministers Mr McKinnon placed a telephone call to Aberdeenshire Council's chief executive while representatives of Mr Trump were present in his office.

Get jazzy with leftovers

Now begins another, and perhaps a favorite, Thanksgiving tradition: leftovers.

While the turkey sandwich may suffice for a few days, it might be time to try something new with all that food. Put away the white bread and mustard and get out the spices.

Use the abundance of food available to experiment and try new tastes in your kitchen, suggests Raul Templonuevo, owner of Kay's Kitchen in St. Joseph. "You have all this stuff on hand. Be creative, try different flavors, French, Indian or Latin."

Kay's Kitchen was closed indefinitely this week by the Minnesota Department of Revenue for failure to pay taxes.

Templonuevo suggests mixing leftover mashed potatoes and turkey with spices, rolling it in flour and bread crumbs and creating croquets.

Bizarre ricochet led to Posey death

Neither Lindauer has a criminal record in Posey County, Uebelhack said. Police were called to their home in December 2006 for a domestic dispute, she said, but it was only verbal, and no charges were filed.

Some of Stroud's family members were gathering at her grandmother's home in Wadesville on Friday. They said it was too soon to talk about their loss.

Neal's blog

Each week I will attempt to make a few predictions, both real and fantastic. I hope this helps you win a few sheckles and fantasy points. Let us take a look at a few of this weekends matchups. Please keep in mind that these predictions are for entertainment purposes only and are worth exactly what you paid for them. Game/Upset of The Week Dallas Cowboys (2-0) at Chicago Bears (1-1) The Sunday night game features two teams ready for prime time. The favored Bears would be the pick here if they had a reliable QB, however Rex Grossman is anything but reliable. He is completing just 56% of his passes for a measly one TD and three INTs. Look for the Boys to confuse him while blending the running of Marion Barber and Julius Jones with the passing of QB Tony Romo. Prediction: Cowboys 23 Bears 17.

Deal gives GM grip on costs

General Motors Corp. emerges from a two-day strike by the United Auto Workers with a landmark four-year contract that lowers its labor and health-care costs by roughly $1,000 per vehicle, dramatically closing the gap with Toyota, the most efficient manufacturer in the U.S.

The Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, Mich., estimates that shifting GM's $50 billion retiree health-care liability to the UAW and other savings in the contract will reduce GM's per-vehicle cost for labor and benefits to about $2,300, just $400 more than Toyota's.

"I think they're competitive on cost now. There are no excuses after this," said David Cole, chairman of the research center. "It's up to them to do it with their products."

Is McMorran worth it?

As Port Huron city officials try to determine what to do with McMorran Place, those close to the aging facility caution the city most likely always will have to contribute funding.

On Monday, Port Huron City Council extended the McMorran Authority, the board that oversees operations at the facility, for another year. Over the coming year, though, city officials' plan is to determine if the facility should be privatized, sold or closed down as the city faces a budget crisis.
