Red Cross report lambastes Israel
The Palestinian Authority is expected to ask for $5.8-billion in new aid. "Humanitarian aid and humanitarian assistance cannot be the solution to the problem," Red Cross spokeswoman Andrea Konig said. "That's why we say there has to be political action taken." The Red Cross report said "severe restrictions" imposed by Israel have denied Palestinians their right to dignified, normal lives. It highlighted Israel's economic stranglehold on Gaza and the system of roadblocks that has chopped the West Bank into disconnected pieces, cutting farmers off from their lands and preventing free movement. "Palestinians continuously face hardship in simply going about their lives; they are prevented from doing what makes up the daily fabric of most people's existence.
Cinderella fails to press the right buttons
The odd flash of learning struck incongruous notes too. "According to Plato happiness is contingent upon virtue," Buttons unbelievably remarks. The intermittent virtues of Fiona Laird's slick production have to do with its appeal to kids - clever audience involvement and the odd, surprising flash of spectacle. Stephen Brimson Lewis's design offers a small pumpkin which magically expands into a vehicle. Pauline Collins's cockney fairy godmother, who has a successful shot at flying, manages a bit of magic. A fairytale kitchen gives way to a down-at-heel, cardboard-wonder of a palace. Song and dance joviality reign supreme, but this is Fry well under par. .
Scribes is a smart editor
EVERYONE HAS his/her favourite Editor [And here at the INQ who is him? -Ed]. But every once in a while you come across one that is "just right". Ironically, I have discovered one that outpaces every other I have known. Editors are very personal, subjective choices. You either hate them or love them. I hated my previous editor on Windows, and in several instances I lost lots of drafts because of editors hanging on me [You're fired -Ed]. No, I don't mean Human editors, I mean, software, you know, the little programs where you type stuff. [Sorry, you're fired -Ed]. For the sake of this analysis I'm leaving out of the picture what I call ""unfriendly editors designed by Aliens" - like "vi" or Emacs, for instance. Although I'm sure geek god Stallman will disagree. This is what Scribes looks like.
The case of the angry colonel
The buzz began on Sunday, when Glenn Greenwald, a political blogger here at Salon, received a long, invective-fraught e-mail that bore Boylan's return e-mail address, steven.boylan@iraq.centcom.mil. Boylan serves as chief spokesman for Gen. David Petraeus, who heads all coalition forces in Iraq. Among other things, the e-mail labels Greenwald a "propagandist" who's "too lazy to do the research on the topics to gain the facts." Greenwald posted the letter. .
